Family Reunion with Theron & Karen

Hello Family All.

Theron and Karen held this year's reunion at their home in Cozad, Nebraska. Bob and I were thrilled to have it so close to our home. We had only 700 miles to travel, as opposed to 1200 to Declo. Circumstances were such that we were both free to travel this particular week, so we made the most of it and went a few days early in order to attend the Winter Quarters temple and visitors center. We also made time for the Omaha Zoo. After four hours of church in the Lexington Ward, we headed home, via Yankton, South Dakota.

Jared and Heather and their children joined us at Theron and Karen's home. Their children, Rachel, age 10 on July 30th, and Nathan and Jenna, are as sweet as they can be. I enjoyed my time with them. Jared has worked into a good job, and has gone back to school, on-line, to gain a degree in the psychology/social services field.

The area is very nice, though hot right now! They have a nice farmstead, with room for animals and a nice large garden. Theron has turkeys, chickens, ducks, and lots of cats. He has such a large garden that he put out a sign in his front yard to sell some of them. He sold so many beets, turnips, and squash that he quipped to Karen that they may end up going to the store for their own vegetables! Bob was especially interested in the garden and variety of growing things.

They attend four hours of church every week. For us, coming from a Branch that is on a two-hour block, you would think that we would tire of so much church. Not so. We enjoyed every hour. First, an English sacrament meeting, then Sunday school that Jared taught, and Primary that Karen has just recently been called as President. After Relief Society and Priesthood meetings, we attended a Spanish sacrament meeting that Theron has charge of. Heather played the piano/organ, and seems to be the only one besides Karen capable to do so.

We met a nice woman from Mexico that gave us an herb-weed from her garden that Bob is interested in, and some Mexican tomato plants. (We have planted them in our garden now and will be anxious to see if they will take root and grow.) She told us that Theron is her home teacher, that he watches over them faithfully. We met other Spanish speaking members, too, that are good faithful individuals themselves.

The turkey that Theron cooked is by far the best that I have eaten. He build a big fire in the early morning, then baked the turkey in the hot coals. We enjoyed food and family. We missed those of you that could not be there. If any of you are looking for a good vacation spot, Nebraska is a nice place.
